Some properties just need a clean line between the lawn and everything else. That's exactly what we were going for here - a sharp, low-maintenance border along the front walkway using 2-inch trap rock and diamond edging that keeps everything in its place.
Trap rock is one of our go-to materials for this type of work. It's dense, it drains well, and it doesn't break down or float away after a heavy rain the way mulch sometimes does. The angular cut of the stone also gives it a more structured, finished look compared to rounded river rock. Pair that with diamond edging along the turf line, and you've got a border that actually holds its shape season after season.
We also ran low-voltage landscape lighting through the rock bed along the walkway. That's a detail that gets overlooked a lot, but it makes a big difference after dark - both for visibility and just overall curb appeal. Small fixtures, clean install, tucked right into the stone so they don't look like an afterthought.
The turf on the lawn side is healthy and tight, which makes the contrast between the green grass and the blue-grey trap rock really pop. That's the thing about good landscape maintenance - when everything is well-kept, even simple material choices end up looking sharp. It doesn't have to be complicated to look intentional.
This kind of setup is genuinely low maintenance once it's in. No trimming around mulch beds, no re-edging every few weeks. The diamond border keeps the grass from creeping in, and the rock just sits there and does its job. It's one of those upgrades that pays for itself in time saved.
